Cartier Enters the Andersonian Cinematic World with Exclusive Creations

Maison Cartier has just unveiled a series of unique designs, crafted exclusively for Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme. The film is a dark comedy exploring espionage themes and complex family ties.

Inspired by a cross pendant crafted by Cartier around 1880 – now part of the Cartier Collection – director Wes Anderson envisioned a contemporary version for a character in the film. To realize this vision, Cartier’s High Jewellery workshop designed a unique rosary in 2024: the archival cross motif was reinterpreted with an exaggerated size to suit the cinematic language, while the chain was adorned with classic rose-cut diamonds, harmonizing with Wes Anderson’s distinctive aesthetic world.

Worn by lead actress Mia Threapleton in The Phoenician Scheme, the piece strongly reflects Cartier’s characteristic design language. The jewelry stands out with a subtle contrast between rubies and emeralds, a combination that Maison Cartier has explored and celebrated for over a century. Stylized circular motifs, set with square diamonds, further affirm Cartier’s enduring passion for geometry and graphic composition.

After its appearance on screen, the piece will become part of the Cartier Collection and be exhibited worldwide, from major exhibitions to prestigious cultural institutions, to honor the Maison’s creative spirit and masterful craftsmanship. Additionally, The Phoenician Scheme introduces another Cartier design, subtly integrated into the plot: a High Jewellery diamond ring, appearing in Cartier’s distinctive red box during a touching marriage proposal scene.

Cartier in the Seventh Art

Through this collaboration, Cartier once again affirms its long-standing connection with the seventh art, a bond that began in the early 20th century and has continuously grown stronger over time.
As an official partner of the Venice International Film Festival, Cartier has accompanied the Venice Biennale since 2021 and continuously supports contemporary cinematic creations, notably through the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award – an award previously bestowed upon Wes Anderson in 2023.
