Actress Monica Bellucci was seen wearing the Tateya and Skudo rings, both part of the En Équilibre high jewelry collection by Cartier. The Tateya ring is especially noteworthy, as it features a ruby from Vietnam.

At the end of May, Cartier captivated jewelry connoisseurs with the debut of its En Équilibre high jewelry collection in Stockholm, Sweden. Among the exceptional pieces, the French maison presented the Tateya ring—an exquisite creation inspired by the obi knot in traditional Japanese kimono attire—featuring a Vietnamese ruby as its center stone.

Cartier described the Tateya ring as “a precious and fluid creation, showcasing a 6.98-carat cabochon-cut ruby from Vietnam, wrapped in a sumptuous ribbon of diamonds.”

By clearly disclosing the gemstone’s origin, Cartier not only demonstrates transparency but also implicitly affirms the prestige of Vietnamese rubies within the realm of high jewelry.

Vietnamese Rubies in Cartier’s High Jewelry

Vietnamese rubies are hailed as some of the finest in the world. Experts recognize the ruby mines in Yen Bai and Nghe An provinces as sources of exceptional gemstones.

Yên Bình District in Yen Bai is particularly renowned for its star ruby deposits. The Tan Huong Mine (Yen Bai) stands out for its significant reserves and has yielded some of Vietnam’s most beautiful and valuable rubies. Meanwhile, Quy Chau in Nghe An also holds notable sites such as Doi Ty and Doi Trieu. Additional ruby occurrences have been discovered in Ea H’leo District (Dak Lak) and Van Hoa (Phu Yen), though with smaller sizes and quantities.

Vietnam’s rich and unique geological conditions have given rise to rubies known for their vivid, bright red hues, free from dark overtones, and displaying strong fire and brilliance.
